FAQ

Or: Things you always wanted to know about Endzeitradio.
Q: What the FAQ is this radio playing?
A: This radio station plays a mix of tracks I found on Bandcamp that I really liked. I enjoy every song played here in one way or another. All songs are 100% hand-curated. The songs come from a wide variety of genres; the umbrella term here is simply “Gothic,” with all its subgenres. Darkwave, post-punk, coldwave/minimal wave, gothic rock, dark ambient/ritual ambient, drone, synthpop, futurepop, electro, and more.
Q: I'm an artist. Can I get played?
A: Sure, but there are four conditions you need to fulfill:
- Your track is on Bandcamp.com
- Your track is “name your price”
- Your track is licensed under a Creative Commons license
- I like your track :)
If you meet conditions 1 through 3, I’ll be happy to check number 4 and get back to you. Email me at tracks@endzeitradio.de. My name is Stefan.
Q: What software do you use for your radio station?
A: I use Icecast2 and a custom-written radio script that broadcasts via ffmpeg.
Q: Did you put this playlist together?
A: No, but I did curate the tracks manually. Instead of creating a tracklist that would eventually get boring, I wanted to keep it especially exciting. That’s why the playlist is randomly generated and plays through once. Before it starts over from the beginning, it gets shuffled again. That means there are sometimes pretty odd transitions or even strange sequences of songs. But hey: this way, you’ll probably never hear the same mix twice.
Q: Why are you doing all this?
It’s a passion project. I don’t make any money from this project—it’s just a lot of work with no financial benefits. I come from a time when the internet was still the real internet. I went online for the first time in 1998. I was part of the forum boom from 2001 to 2010 (before it was destroyed by the first social media sites), and of course I loved listening to web radio. Now I’m running my own web radio station. To offer an alternative to all this AI crap on the internet. I’m not selling you anything either. I don’t run ads, I don’t track anything—it’s just radio. Every now and then I host listening parties on Bandcamp where you can chat with me. I offer a counterpoint to the fast-paced, loud, and chaotic internet of today.
Q: I don’t like your music. Can’t you play something else?
Well, this is my radio station. If you don’t like these tracks, just wait; maybe you’ll like the next one. If not: then congratulations on realizing that you’re not part of my target audience. It’s important to me that I don’t play mainstream music; you can get that anywhere. On all the music platforms, music is served up to you; algorithms only show you certain music, while other, unknown artists—who might not bring in money—are rarely featured. Yet there are many artists who make great music; maybe you just haven’t discovered them yet?
Q: Are you active anywhere else?
A: Yes, on endzeitradio.bandcamp.com. And yes, even though I rarely use it: the Instagram account is also mine. If another account pops up somewhere, it is not an official Endzeitradio.de account.
Q: I have a question that isn't answered here. Can I contact you?
A: Sure. Send me an email at tracks@endzeitradio.de. My name is Stefan.
